Check your HOA first

Many newer neighborhoods in Locust Grove and Hampton have a homeowners association. HOAs usually care about anything visible from the street: exterior colors, windows, doors, decks and fences. Most interior work, like kitchens, bathrooms and basements, doesn’t need HOA approval, but some HOAs have rules about work hours, dumpsters and contractor parking. Read your covenants or call your HOA manager before the project starts.

Permits

Both cities sit in Henry County, and projects that change structure, plumbing, electrical or HVAC typically need a building permit and inspections. That includes finishing a basement, removing a wall, adding a bathroom or relocating plumbing. Cosmetic work like painting or replacing cabinets in the same spot usually doesn’t.
